Inkscape is a free graphics design package based on the SVG graphics format.
We use Inkscape for the following reasons:
- It is a very advanced package capable of drawing anything
- It's SVG file format is the web standard for vector graphics and for use on the web
- Graphics are vector based, so can be zoomed without loss of resolution
- Graphics elements can be manipulated as elements in a webpage
- Inkscape can import almost anything, including PDFs, and export almost any file type
- It can be extended with plugins
