Inkscape is a free graphics design package based on the SVG graphics format.

We use Inkscape for the following reasons:

It is a very advanced package capable of drawing anything
It's SVG file format is the web standard for vector graphics and for use on the web
Graphics are vector based, so can be zoomed without loss of resolution
Graphics elements can be manipulated as elements in a webpage
Inkscape can import almost anything, including PDFs, and export almost any file type
It can be extended with plugins
